WHO WE ARE
Welcome to BRRSD Parents For a Plan Forward.
We are a diverse group of parents, families and community members who have come together to advocate for greater transparency and communication from our district administrators. We need a clear and strategic plan forward in safely and fully reopening our schools. We have been and continue to research and communicate our findings and suggestions to the Board of Education and the Superintendent.
For those who have chosen and embraced the virtual model we celebrate with you and are not seeking to remove this choice from you. We support, and have been advocating for a virtual academy with designated virtual teachers for those families in need of such an option.
While the CDC, WHO and AAP have stated that schools can reopen safely without all of its teachers being vaccinated, it is important to us that our teachers feel safe. We strongly support our teachers and are actively advocating for them to be prioritized for vaccination. We have and will continue to contact our administration, local and state officials on their behalf.
We are determined to make our voices heard. Through all of our endeavors we hope to display the conviction behind our beliefs.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP THE CAUSE
In an effort to let their voices be heard, we are gathering drawings, journal pages and letters from our students.
We have posted them here and also to our Twitter account, tagging the BOE and others.
You can also email the BOE directly. They need to see who their decisions are affecting and the importance of being in school.
You can submit a picture of your child's work, along with their age or grade to directly to our email or follow, post and tag us on Twitter.

Opening Statements (Rally)
Thank you all for being here today. And a huge thank you Melanie and her team who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes the past few weeks to make sure this event was successful. We are deeply grateful.
BRRSD Parents For a Plan Forward is a diverse group of parents, families and community members who have come together as the voice of so many families and students who need a clear plan forward and a choice that meets out children’s education and social/emotional needs.
The current model- not our educators- but the educational model, is not working for a huge portion of our student body. Education has never been and should never be one size fits all. For those who have chosen and embraced the virtual model we celebrate with you and are not seeking to remove that choice from you. Rather, today we stand as a voice of those who haven’t been given the choice that meets their needs. We are here today asking for that choice - a choice that meets the needs of our in-person learners.
We are a group that has not just been advocating for our schools to fully reopen but we have been advocating for our teachers as well. Teachers, we deeply care about your safety and well-being. We have been advocating for months at the state and local level for you to have access to the vaccine. We are in your corner. You are essential; not expendable. We are not looking to throw caution to the wind at your expense. We are following the research. And the research says that schools can fully reopen safely. Many already have.
When it was suggested that I open the rally today I had a million reasons why it shouldn’t be me. I was honored just to stand amongst you. There must be someone more eloquent or qualified. But I couldn’t shake the fact that I am the voice of my children. I am their greatest advocate. If I won’t speak up for them who will? Their voices have been drowned out in the midst of all of this.
Thank you for standing with us in advocating for what my son refers to as, “the time of a lifetime” for our children.
